Route description

We would like to kick off our 2011 season by organizing a group ride on one of our favorite routes.  It’s sure to be a great training ride for our spring race in May.  Due to the colder/snowier conditions this winter and the seemingly consistent snow that we’ve been seeing on the Dalles Mountain Road, we’re moving out the date a little bit to March 5th.  If you weren’t one of the lucky few to race this course last spring, and you liked the Stampede course, you should come check it out.

Details:

  • Click here for a recent update on this ride.
  • Most any type of bike will suffice.  The climbs are dirt/gravel, but there is a lot of pavement in between.
  • A word on conditions/weather – We’ve moved the date out in hopes of avoiding serious cold and/or snow.  However, this is no guarantee and one or both of these conditions might exist.  The Dalles Mt Rd climb in particular is high and exposed, so come prepared.  Too bad there aren’t more people with Pugsleys in town, we’d just do it now and have a kick-ass snow race ;-)
  • Same start/finish place as last year:  Holsteins Coffee Company, in The Dalles, OR.  Please park on the street – NOT in their lot.  There are plenty of all-day spaces on the street in downtown.
  • The only commercial services along the route are in Biggs, OR.  This is a little over halfway through the route, so plan accordingly.
  • We will provide a cue sheet or you can download it here.
  • Questions?  email us at info@velodirt.com – or just show up in The Dalles on March 5th.

Words of Warning:

  1. As always, you are fully responsible for yourself – there is no support being provided by anyone.  Bring a spare, patch kit, pump, etc. and know how to use them.
  2. Road rules must be followed at all times – stop at the stop sign, etc.
  3. Wear a helmet.
  4. A GPS or speedometer w/ mileage will be helpful for following the cue sheet.
